Accident Maps
Accurate measurement of the physical positions of people, equipment and damaged items is
necessary for a precise investigation. Accurate data starts with pre-planning and equipment to measure and record.
Preliminary visual surveys ascertain what is to be recorded, and sketches and logs are then employed to collect
data to make a precise map.
Positions also include the position in time of actions and activities leading to and following an
accident. Activities are reconstructed of diagrams of two types. One type shows interconnection of actions. Another
type shows time sequencing of actions. Both types of diagrams can help analyze causes and effects, or incompatible
activities which lead to the accident
