Accident Witness Interviews
The witness interview generally produces half the information available to the investigator. Obtaining true information depends upon establishing a psychologically comfortable
situation for the witness and interviewer. The investigator should first get the overview picture of the accident,
select an appropriate place for interviews and locate the witnesses. The interview starts with putting
the witness at ease, getting an initial statement 'of observations, and then expanding the information with careful questioning. After closing the interview, the investigator should analyze both the information and the witnesses
actions and personality to rate the validity of information to be used in analysis.
